Hello Friends,
Appreciate that SAP is Hot in the market and will continue to be for another 3 to 6 years. There are various factors supporting the fact that SAP will pioneer in ERP segment.
The following is the Caution or Request for the SAP aspirants in particular.
1.Dont be desperate to accept the Offers made by these Head hunting or Just Payroll running companies in Singapore.
2.Most of the "Big-Clients" know that Indians are Tech Savvy, hard working and Sincere and come with very good Functional and Educational backgrounds!!
Particularly SAP market is mojored by Indians per se.
So dont fall for accepting the SAP Contracts between 3 to 5 Months.
3. Contracts between 3 to 5 months will only majorly handled or given to small Head hunting or Manpower companies since they are also desperate to establish themselves for a Clientele and these Companies in turn exploit the SAP consultants and make us desperate!!
4. As a Senior Consultant I can guarantee that no Project in SAP can be completed in 3 to 5 months. (a)If a Consultant is hired for this duration then he/she is screwed only to "Solve" un-resolved gaps in the Project which are normally could not be handled by Permanent Staff in the Organisation.
(b) If a Consultant is hired for this duration is to do either the crappy testing or documenting or User helpdesk role for a Production Support.Since initially when an Implementation is done there will be so many Production bugs in the Post Implementation Warranty period and these issues will not be usually handled by the Implementation Company or Permanent staff will not be ready to do this Job!!!
In both the above situations Guy hired for short duration will be exploited and Humiliated and finally removed after the Contract is finished!! Then again you're on the Street searching for another Offer. This is a very vicious circle and life will become crippled, Since everyone in the SAP market will take us for a Ride!!
5. There will no kind of Emotional Support from Head hunting or Payroll companies in first place. Secondly there will be no Medical leaves nor Medical insurance or any benefits supported by these Small Consulting or Head hunting or Payroll companies!!
6. The above short term duration Projects are coming as a New trend because our SAP fraternity guys are falling for these Jobs and accepting them for less Salary without any benefits per se and becoming desperate for getting Jobs.
7.SAP guys please dont be desperate and accept lesser salaries. There are so many avenues for working in SAP.Make your Skill-sets very firm and improve your domains very strong then there will be So many Countries or Companies which can pave path for Indians!!!
8.SAP is like a BIG elephant in the Market and SAP guys are like Elephant Trainers. Please be united and Command good salary and Good working culture and Life!!!
Thankx again for reading the above .....I would really appreciate if anybody in this group can comment and make this Objective strong!!
Have a great time ahead.

Re: Caution: SAP job aspirants
Hi guys,
- The mail received by Balaji from 'someone' seems to tell the challenges that the SAP aspirants have to face while getting a placement in Singapore. Eventhough most of the implementation projects in SAP goes on for more than 6 months, the projects in SMB sector takes 2-3 months to implement. So it is better to know to type of the project before embarking on it.
- When I attended interviews with the Man Power or Head Hunting compaines in Singapore, they were not able to provide the information about the precise nature of the assignments. All I would to be told is to do whatever work the client assigns.
- Also during the interviews (with these Man Power or Head Hunting compaines) , I used to be less tested on my SAP skillsets. On the otherhand, the interview revolved around only one point, the salary.
- I note a peculiar thing when I access the some of the job postings for SAP in Singapore. It always asks us to mention our current and expected salary. But when I check similar job postings for US, there is no mention about the current salary.
- When I mentioned about our current salary, then during the interviews the ManPower or Head Hunting companies stuck to paying the same salary as that of my current irrespective of whatever skillsets I possess or whatever the nature of the assignment.
- Sometime back, I worked for a Software company in Singapore. During my job, the employer deducted 15% of the salary as income tax every month for more than a year saying that the company would file the tax return and pay the tax subsequently. But one fine morning, the representative in the Singapore office of my ex-company left for India without informing me and never returned back. Many communications to the company's Singapore and India office turned no stone and finally I ended up paying the income tax myself eventhough it was deducted by my ex-employer from my salary.

Hi All,
I FULLY AGREE to the above post and this comment!!! In Singapore THEY WILL ALWAYS ASK YOU ABOUT YOUR CURRENT SALARY. Then the Singaporean firm will offer to pay say 100 to 500 more than the previous. If a guy joins from India, then he is more trouble. They will convert the amount in Sing$....say it comes to about 1000 SGD, then the Singaporean firm will offer to pay say 2500!!! So BE CAREFUL. This kind of siutation is not there in US. DO NOT OFFER ANY JOB IN SINGAPORE if it is LESS THAN 5000 to SGD 6000. Singaporeans are bad pay masters for Indians. If they are paying SGD 3000/- to Indians, they are paying SGD 12000/- or even more FOR SAME SKILLSETS in a GORA from UK/USA/Australia or Europe.
Therefore, Desis, beware. I got stuck in Singapore in a low income job and had to come over to USA.

I agree with Balaji(to fix gaps in the project). I am a java programmer and I have been recruited by one small company in India to work on a SAP project in SAP IPC (crm domain). This was for a duration of 3 months. I am trying to extend my contract here.

It is possible to implement SAP in a short period. The only problem is that no company will do it because you have to skip too many steps like bespoke, testing, training and change management.

Thanx for the information. i am a comp Engg and want to start my career in SAP. How should i get start with it? sahll i go for SAP certification? what is the future in it and salary?
Comment from Ruchi on 03 September 2006 14:37:53 CEST
Hello Friends,
My suggesstion to all new SAP aspirants :
1. Do not do any certifications from traning institutes where they say they are authorised trainers.
2. Remember SAP Authorised trainers are only SIEMENS, SATYAM, ACCENTURE, and BOSCH.
3. Do not take SAP Certification as easy as othe certifications!! You have to give your best, your heart out..
4. SAP Certification is very costly and each time you fluck have to pay huge ammount for exams (Get reabte only in SAP TECH-ED)
5. Just give your Heart out during training!
All the Best!!

Hi Ruchi,
It is good that you are planning to take up a career in SAP. In fact, SAP career is the cream of the software jobs, I can say.
To begin with, choose a SAP module that fits your functional experience and undergo training in that. In Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai there are some good institutes that offer training in SAP. It is better to go for certification at the end of the training or latter.
The starting salary you can expect is about INR 40 to 60 K (India) or USD 3.5K (North America).
SAP has got a good future atleast for the next five years or more.
I have seen a lot of guys taking training in SAP and getting placed within 3-6 months.
Happy career in SAP !

It is being implemented in 138 countries and is partially deployed. As a fresher i am expected to learn on the job and am currently doing a combination of basis jobs and crm troubleshooting. My problem is as a career should i concentrate on basis or crm. my current job role does not cover the entire basis nor entire crm. I have access to both sides.I am more interested in the crm side and am self learning about implementation & customization. Can some one please advise me what to do further, should i go in for certification or will what i learm on the job and by myself be sufficient in 2-3 years time. also I would be greatful if some one told me about the various avenues open to me from here on and what kind of pay I can expect.

what u balaji said is correct. Salary in SAP area if u have real experience is high pls dont quote low or accept. Leading MNC companies in India is finding difficulty in hiring people, but at the same time HR people are trying to squeeze yr salaries
so dont go for negoitation
cost of living also going high and life style also improving go for best paid salary , demand yr package, because most of the job done in these are for foreign project where they quote in dollars for billing u r paid a peanuts. look for companies which real take care of u or full fill yr needs
good luck

I don't fully agree with Balaji. If it is functional implementation project, your right. But for SAP Technical side, the total project span is for about 6 months. It is applicable for XI & EP.

Hi:
I am exploring the possibility of joining SAP authorized Institute and getting trained in SAP. Before that, I would like to check whether SAP education will be useful to me or not. The following is my profile:
Age: 58 years
Experience in IT: 20 yrs
Current role: Sr Project Manager in s/w development
ERP implementation experience: 1 year
Education: (a) M.Tech from IIT and (b) PMP
In IT field, 45 is the max age limit. Also, the retirement age is 58-60. Hence, I am not able to grow carrerwise. I want to know whether jobs in SAP domain provide some few execeptions in age restriction. If there are execeptions is age limit and if I can still find jobs in SAP at 58, then I would like to take up SAP education seriously.
Someone please advice.

guys , It is correct to ban such unauth. instt. who makes false claims and using unauth. software. But I wish to ask you people one small question. Is it right on the part of SAP to fix course fees for auth. training at such sky high rates for a 25 days program. It works out to be Rs.10000 per day. In India can we afford to pay such high amount as training fee per day that too without any financial assistance (Please note no bank offers educational loan for SAP training as I enquired in Bangalore. Banks won't consider this as education at all). Take my case for ex. I am having 14 years functional experience in Wipro. I wanted to become SAP MM consultant. I enquired with SAP who quoted 2.5 Lakhs for 25 days program. When checked about financial assistance (Tie-up with any banks) or placement assistance they (SAP India - Bangalore)did not give any commitment and assurance. Going by my background, 2.5 Lakhs will be life risk for me. If I don't get job in return immediately, that 2.5 Lakh burden might kill me. So, I had to resort to private institute and got trained for Rs.12,500 ofcourse under good faculty.(Twelve and half thousand rupees only). Secondly, everybody involved SAP implementation demands only skilled and experienced consultants. Nobody recruits SAP freshers although they are trained by Siemens / Genovate etc. Because of this, guys are projecting themselves with false SAP experience and getting lucrative jobs with starting pay something like Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum. Guys like me who does not want to chose the wrong way of false claim feel handicapped and yelling at those fake consultants who is enjoying high profile status. I heard that in the entire Indian SAP positions, 75 - 90% are with fake experience only. Ofcourse, all these fake matters only first time. For the second job, the guy will have genuine experience. Is SAP sleeping on this issue?Because of all these, I feel the entire approach followed by SAP AG or SAP India in developing genuine SAP consultants not straight and indirectly responsible for promoting all grey areas as mentioned above.

I was offered a job by headhunter in S'pore, they gave me only S$2200, it's even less than the salary of my classmate who graduated from S'porean Uni with IT degree( their salary is in the range of 2500-3000S$). I graduated from a Malaysian Uni, got 8-month internship in SAP (Malaysia) ( SAP AG M'sia division), and gone through 2 big implementation projects in FI-CO module. I was taught 2 courses in ABAP ( even ABAP object)at my Uni.
How should I negotiate for salary in S'pore?
I am also being offered SAP CRM job. However, my experience in this field is none. Should it be a good move if I move to CRM rather than ERP?

Hi guys,
I am an MBA in Mktg.
I have 3 years experience in export division of a company and I have been using SAP R/3 for my daily job activities, more as an end user.
I also did a course in SAP -SD module, though it was from an unauthorised institn charging Rs.15000 bucks.
Now, I have been approached by a US Co. handled by Indians and they have offices in India too. They are offering H1B visa where I would be paying for the visa process - around Rs. 5 lacs, this includes 2months boarding in their US guesthouse. The Co. says that they would be providing me the training for 2 months till I get the SSN no.
The salary offered is USD 55K per annum.
Is it a good option to accept this job as SAP consultant, OR should I go for an authorised SAP training & certificaton from Genovate/Siemens, and then take a job in SAP?
