An integrated suite of applications.

I remember Dilbert's "Phil, Prince of Insufficient Light" offering Dilbert an "integrated suite of applications" as inticement to come over to the dark side. If you've ever been part of an effort to turn a group of unrelated codes into such an integrated suite, you know it can be a scary business. The politics, the egos, the funding wars, the turf battles.

Today, in a meeting about just such a project, one man volunteered to turn his desktop application into a service accessed through other codes. It was a technically good, but politically difficult decision to make. But he put user needs above all else, and I think it was a very brave thing to do, something we all should try to emulate. Courage was one of the 12 original XP values; this is one example of what that means.
