My latest painting is a portrait of my friend Kim, from a photo taken when she was a child. I still feel a sense of continuous improvement. I've avoided some of the heavy, opaque paint application from previous portraits, and the result has a little more soft realism. It's also the best likeness I've managed to capture in watercolor. It's 12x9" on cold-press paper. |

I painted this tiny (4x6") watercolor after a photo of a friend's daughter. She's just learning to play the violin -- hence the unusual configuration of the instrument (I think perhaps someone out of the frame is holding the peghead.) My painting makes her out to be a bit older than she really is, but I feel like I succeeded with the modeling of the face, hands, and sleeve. | ![]() |
