Just something I've noticed lately:
I've been seeing (and hearing) a lot of small hints and nudges (a word here, another there) about the mistake this industry has made in the last couple of decades -- trying to take the human out of the equation for software development. I honestly can't remember all the places where I've seen that but it's been a lot of places both online and inside soft/hardcovers.
And obviously I agree.

100% agree.
I think the general problem is caused by the fact that industry's demand for programmers far outstrips the available talent. Thus various attempts are made to do things automatically or make programming easier to allow lesser talent to make up the shortfall
Aptitude is really important here - not everyone can be a musician, a pilot or a racecar driver nor can they all be programmers but the industry is losing billions trying to fight that unchangeable fact.
Lastly, and I have no doubt this will offend some people, AI is still a long way from being able to perform pattern recognition/trend spotting and then act on those observations as well as a human brain can. We still need smart humans to make those difficult decisions and I don't see that changing for a long time.
