Oh, crap. Why did I end up reading this blog entry? Now that I'm painfully aware that someone is offering Rails hosting for reasonable prices (I don't consider TextDrive's pricing to be even close to "reasonable"), I'm really tempted to move away from PCHighway (who do have Ruby installed but no Rails, no FCGI, etc.). Then again, I still haven't set up my web identity, so...

Oh, and since I have this Ruby fever going, I decided to create a whole new category in my blog for this stuff so that those who are only subscribing to the Java and General feeds, for example, don't need to listen to me go off about learning to use closures and stuff.

Thanks for the plug. I'm glad that you find our rates reasonable. :-) Come give us a try, we offer a 30 day money back guarantee, so what do you have to lose? ;-) Check out our Rails Hosting packages.
Well, there is now a whole database of Ruby on Rails Hosting Plans out there. Essentially any hosting company that can keep Ruby updated and implement FCGI and Rails will be competitive. This is good news for rails developers (a crowd that is growing at an exponential rate) so we don't have to succumb to high prices and low bandwidth/disk space options.

I'm actually using Dreamhost who does a reasonable job at staying current with Ruby and Rails versions and they're overall price per spec is unbeatable, it seems.

<plug> Oh, and if you end up signing up with Dreamhost, please consider using the promotion code "AGLFFTFF" which gives you a $50 discount and $49 off of my next hosting bill </plug>

Yeah Dreamhost seems to get the job done for Rails. v1.0.0 now and working great. Also, I think Jackson above meant to link to www.HostingRails.com, where I am building a database list of Rails hosts and currently have a free Rails hosting offer for anyone looking to test out an app online.
I have been trying to shed some light on rails hosting long back. Still it is a confusing topic for me. Basically I would like to have a PHP+RAILS+MYSQL trio bacause I have a couple of sites already running on PHP.
