I'm happy to see folks trying to improve on the existing Java web frameworks (I'm especially anxious to see whether Wicket will relieve us from the horrors of Tapestry) but...
...is it just me or does it seem like someone's astroturfing the RIFE thread at TheServerSide? I mean, the first three posts are like they were written by someone with a bachelor's in marketing, and looking at the post history of the said three users, we can see that they've only posted in threads where Geert (the author of RIFE) has posted (or in the one started by Dion about different Java web frameworks). Plus, a couple of those names are the same guys that show up on the testimonials page at rifers.org.
Please tell me I'm imagining things.

So, to cut it short, you are imagining things ;-)

Good to hear that, Geert :)

If you want real proof, just go searching Google for their names. They are present on quite some other sites and user communities where I'm not even part of.

Trust me, I just really suck at writing and ended up writing a marketing type post. :P

Horrors of Tapestry? Tapestry is a great mature framework. 4.0 is looking better every day.

Yep, Tapestry has its horrors, mostly to do with stale links. At least that's my experience. There's a lot of good stuff in Tapestry compared to Struts, for example, but it's certainly not perfect. We haven't yet upgraded to 4.0 so maybe it does improve things. Maybe it's just me being thick, but right now, I feel like I could get a lot more done with another web framework.

Tapestry 4.0 still has those fantastic abstract classes, XML-hell (yes, even with annotations XML is required), and render-rewind brokeness. As a plus, Spindle _still_ doesn't support 4.0. So yes, I am also looking forward to switching to Wicket.

But 4.0 is not mature. And the 3.x series is definitely not 'great'.

"Astrorifer"? That sounds like I'm using my favorite framework .. in a snazzy Art Deco spaceship ... in an altered state of consciousness ... *cough* *cough* It's time to play some progrock

What's the problem with existing users posting initial comments about the framework when its final 1.0 release is announced. Yes, they're the same that gave testimonials and yes they already reacted to older posts. This only means that they're dedicated and are willing to continuously back up the project with their opinion and time.
Indeed, I said on the IRC channel that it would be good to post initial positive comments in the thread and hey, look they took time out of their busy schedule to do so. (http://servlet.uwyn.com/drone/log/bevinbot/rife/20050831 scroll down to 12:07).
Is this not only normal in anticipation of the inevitable flames, criticisms and prejudices?
