Re: It's actually surprising that stories like these aren't publicized more often
Amazing, but that is how buisness works, nad he's right, they will come up on top. Very sad though, much better products would emerge if managers would take some more risks and try out something new...

He's making IBM out to be the problem, but in fact he was the project manager, and yet he was letting upper management make decisions. Sounds like his own company screwed themselves by letting IBM do whatever they wanted without providing any oversight.
There are two sides to every story, and I wouldn't be too quick to judge without hearing the other side in this case.

I'm not so sure if he's making IBM out to be the problem nor that he himself as the project would be to blame--he explicitly says he tried to raise as many warnings as he could.
Anyway, this sort of stuff happens all the time with probably all giant consulting companies. If you've got tens of thousands of employees, by definition they're not all going to be top-notch.

Not suprising since you would get your ass sued. More comments about the story here: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/9/27/95759/4240

Thanks for linking to it. Yes, some comments have said "what did management expect, it's business as usual". Well, it may be business as usual, but 1) it still happens every day, and 2) should it be business as usual for our industry?

I know someoen who actually worked with that guy... and described him as:
"...a legend in his own mind and functionally incompetent."
