[Poetry Corner] Friday Morning
Jot n' Go
Oct 27, 2006
The hash of lines in my head
Like the queue to this morning's ferry
Won't make it on time
My mind hangs on the carnival lights
Strung over the tympani of skin
Between my low ribs
I once heard lightning
Commuting an aluminum wire
Racing like
Christmas bulb space battle laser hiss
Dire, Pantone urgency
I'd like to be that speed once, and that color.
The sound I could do without.

A Rambling, Failed Meditation

It was but one fact in a busy day, and it was too early to know whether it meant anything, or for how long.

This morning I went to the local cafe, Bogie's, and ate at the bar. I read no more than four pages of Robert Hass' Twentieth Century Pleasures. There was, suddenly, too much to unpack. The energy of being overwhelmed so quickly recalled the many used textbooks I bought at college, more lead sentences illuminated in yellow and pink highlighter than not: a tell-tale symptom of a student's recognition of new information well outstripping his capacity to absorb it.

You lost me today, Senator

You've forgotten, sir: it's not about the good of your party, it's about the good of America.

Colbert's quest for the punchline (and the jugular) has always been unflinching, but he also does what the likes of Michael Moore can't do: reveal his subjects through their own words and actions, even when they probably know they shouldn't.

[I Dump on What They Said] Carly Fiorina Re-do
(You realize you suck, right?)
Oct 10, 2006

Ok, Carly, before you get too worked up about exploiting Dunn's misfires for your own gain, it's time I unloaded on your crap track record at Lucent and HP.

You did your best to tank my stock at Lucent and diminish a proud and worthy enterprise at HP. Now you want everyone to believe you were somehow a victim of the culture at HP that ousted you. But anyone taking a close look will see Dunn fell into the quicksand of personal politics you created.

What is it with you corporate powermongers from Texas? You, Kenneth Lay, George Bush -- what is your problem already? Who do you people think you are, and what did we do to deserve you?

All right, know what? I don't have time for this. Anyway, it's been done already, and quite well I might add. I'll just leave it at 'Screw you.' I want to watch your eventual trial so bad, lady, I will subscribe to cable to see it. I'll get it on DVD too.

[Songs in the Key of Middle C] Google Bought YouTube?
Crazy? Like a fox!

I bet you don't realize what all Google got in the package. How about the rights to Star Trek and Star Wars? That's right. Pretty savvy, those boys on Sand Hill Road.

Don't believe it? Check it out for yourself: here and here.

Confused? Maybe this guy has some insight.
