Jeanne reviewed Persistence in the Enterprise by Kyle Brown and Roland Barcia and gave it 8 out of 10 horseshoes.
[The book] helps architects pick the right persistence technology for JEE applications. ... The persistence technologies evaluated are JDBC, iBatis, Hibernate Core (not the JPA implementation), Apache Open JPA and IBM's Pure Query. ... The stated goals of the book are to provide an end to end view of choosing a persistence technology and help clients exploit the WebSphere product suite. These dual goals worked well for them. ... The authors go into a lot of detail describing the criteria used for evaluating and comparing. ... Overall, this book is a good value if you are choosing a persistence technology. It saves countless hours of time in research and analysis.

Recognizing the interest in alternative languages for the Java VM, we've started a new discussion section for Other Languages. For starters, it contains the following forums:
Other Languages (this is the old "Object Oriented Scripting" forum with a new name)
Obviously we're interested in people using these to discuss their favorite languages (or in asking questions so that they have a chance to make these their favorite languages), so you can help us in spreading the word about them.
We're also open to suggestions for other languages, if people feel that there's no good place to discuss them in a friendly setting. JRuby? Jython? Heck, there are so many that we may not even have heard about them.
We welcome your feedback in this discussion.
